The Fenix project enabled MGI to experiment with and validate the concept of federating information systems to facilitate data exchange between systems and promote the development of efficient and sustainable integrated logistics solutions on the trans-European transport networks.

MGI implemented FENIX connectors (A European Federated Network of Information eXchange in LogistiX) to federate the Ci5 Port Community System with infrastructure management solutions such as Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) and governmental systems managing dangerous goods.

This demonstrated that digitized data in Ci5 can be easily shared and repurposed to facilitate traffic flow near terminals and ensure that international shipments of dangerous goods can be fully tracked digitally in compliance with EFTI regulations. Pilot operations were conducted at the Marseille Fos and Dunkerque terminals, French ports equipped with Ci5 and connected to trans-European transport networks.
